LABOR INSPECTION AGAINST CHILD LABOR IN BRAZIL (2017-2023)

The study discusses the role of inspection in the fight against child labor and the strategies to face early labor, using bibliographical and documental techniques. The text deals with concrete experiences and perspectives for the work of the Labor Inspection, in articulation with the bodies of the child and adolescent protection network. It presents the result of inspections aimed at eliminating child labor, from 2017 to 2022, carried out by the Undersecretariat for Labor Inspection: 4,858 inspections and 8,791 children and adolescents reached. It discusses the profile of victims in a situation of early labor: people aged 14 to 17 years old (84.9%), male (77.6%) and in economic activity of commerce, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (27.5%). In the end, it proposes changes to defend the rights of children and adolescents in child labor, such as the constant operation of the Mobile Group to Combat Child Labor, inter-institutional action, and encouragement to refer victims over 14 years of age to professional apprenticeships.
