The work of Brazil's Labor Inspection System in analyzing occupational accidents represents a critical point in public Occupational Safety and Health policy. This article presents a reflection on the limits and possibilities of this practice, focusing on technical qualification and the reduction of cognitive biases that affect inspectors’ judgment. Based on empirical data from a national survey of labor inspectors and a targeted theoretical review, we propose a set of interventions structured at three levels: technological, collaborative, and individual. Suggested measures include the development of intelligent decision support systems, the use of adaptive checklists, peer-review of reports, and continuous training in metacognition. The study reinforces that improving accident analysis requires not only regulatory knowledge but also institutional structures that promote critical thinking, ethical judgment, and organizational learning.
